Blue Music Group introduces Instant Net-CDs
Blue Music Group is the first record label to introduce Instant Net-CDs on its website. In addition to offering common mpeg layer 3 ("mp3") and advanced audio codec ("aac") media, the entire Blue Music Group catalog is now available in a full quality CD format, including printable artwork, lyrics and inserts.
"This is a major step for music sales to become entirely postal-free. Neither the sound quality nor the liner notes are an issue anymore," says Mika Pohjola, the artistic director and product developer for Blue Music Group. The label is known for its audiophile quality in jazz, classical and world music, with remastered classics as well as high-end new recordings. "It's natural for us to be the first. Our listeners are asking for it, mp3 is not good enough anymore," Pohjola adds.
Blue Music Group's announcement comes after the closing of several U.S. retail record stores due to a shift in favor of the major web vendors, Apple iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby. In recent years, traditional compact disc sales has experienced turbulent times with a market share loss in double digits, while portable devices have catered to the popularity of the web stores.
Blue Music Group offers a free subscription and all DRM-free music for its customers. "The Instant Net-CD will eliminate the need to manufacture and distribute the heavy packages to the stores. Most listeners simply want a high quality recording, artwork for their portable device, and printable inserts for their home-end product. Now that piece of high quality music is readily available anywhere, anytime."
